So we're back

A few observations from our brief stay in Germany:

there are hardly any billboards along the Autobahn
one rarely sees road kill
not everyone speaks English, especially outside the big cities (Hungarian would have come in handy a couple times)
there are speed limits on most of the Autobahn, but the default, 130 KM (about 81 MPH) isn't all that bad

About us

Born in Detroit during the glory years of the American auto industry, we--Val and Bob--grew up with oil in our veins. Our mutual friend Jean, knowing of our passion for German cars and shared German heritage, introduced us to each other, and we quickly became car pals.

We went to Germany in May 2011 to visit the five auto museums, drive fast, drink beer, visit relatives, experience Berlin, and other stuff (not necessarily in that order).

Bob tools around in a matchstick red VW GTI and Val's ride is a moro blue Audi TT. We rented cars to get around in Germany -- a VW Polo that got us from Stuttgart to Frederichshafen, Munich, and Ingolstadt; a Dacia from Ingolstadt to Berlin; and a Ford Focus (!) from Berlin back to Stuttgart. Wish we could have driven something snazzier but the budget realities and the strong Euro dictated otherwise.
